About Jen

Co-creator of the Tuesday Date Night Journal

Jen Crowley

Jen was born and raised in Louisiana by two Louisiana parents, so crawfish isn’t just a favorite food—it’s practically a love language. Cajun cooking runs deep in her blood, and she never turns down a proper boil, a rich étouffée, or anything that tastes like home. Every year she and Mark host a big crawfish boil at their house for friends and neighbors, turning the backyard into a lively, messy, perfect gathering.

She’s equally serious about a well-made martini. When she orders one, she always asks for olive juice on the side—because most bartenders’ idea of “dirty” or “slightly dirty” doesn’t quite match hers.

A few more food notes:

She worked as a waitress at Outback Steakhouse and, while working downtown, could often be found grabbing lobster bisque at Truluck’s or stopping by the Grove. These days the map stretches farther (Volente, Round Rock, Georgetown, and beyond), but the food-first approach hasn’t changed.

She also founded a monthly cookbook club: each month a different friend chooses a cookbook, the host prepares the main course, and everyone else brings a supporting dish—usually with a thoughtful wine or cocktail pairing.

Jen has been married to Mark since 2009. Together they protect four uninterrupted hours every Tuesday so “us” never gets lost in the schedule of five kids under thirteen. She comes from the South, loves cooking, a good drink, and the people around her table. On date night you’ll usually find her ordering something she hasn’t tried before, stealing bites off Mark’s plate, and already thinking about the next new spot.
