After an activity, game, movie or special event, The Melting Pot makes a great stop on the way home. You do not have to commit to the full fondue dinner. Going specifically for chocolate dessert keeps the plan simple and turns an ordinary ride home into one more memorable part of the date.
Chocolate fondue is especially fun with kids because it is interactive. Choose the chocolate together, then work your way through fruit, brownies, cakes, marshmallows and other treats. It has the fun of making fondue or s’mores at home—without buying every ingredient, doing the prep or cleaning the kitchen afterward.

Why we like it
This works particularly well as an add-on date instead of the main event. Do something fun first, then stop for chocolate fondue before heading home. It stretches the night by about an hour and gives you time to sit across the table, talk about what you just did and laugh together without another agenda.
The chocolate was great, but on nights like this dessert almost becomes secondary. Passing the fondue forks back and forth and trying different combinations makes an ordinary evening feel like an occasion.

The Northwest Austin location is an easy dessert stop for dates ending near the Arboretum, Lakeline or North Austin. A reservation is worth considering on busy evenings, even if you are only planning dessert.
The memory
Sometimes the best parent–child dates are not elaborate. They are simply an excuse to spend a little more time together before going home.
