A Valentine’s dinner with an honest footnote.

For Valentine’s Day 2026, we headed downtown for dinner at BOA Steakhouse, followed by cocktails at Small Victory—a tucked-away speakeasy near 7th Street.

BOA offered a special prix-fixe Valentine’s menu with an appetizer, main course and shared dessert. The steak was excellent, and the atmosphere felt appropriately romantic for the occasion.

Our honest take: Valentine’s Day can be a challenging night to judge any restaurant. With so many couples celebrating, restaurants understandably need to keep tables moving. The evening felt a little more rushed—and more expensive—than BOA’s regular dining experience probably would.

We would happily return on an ordinary Tuesday, when we could slow down and enjoy BOA at its normal pace. But when Valentine’s Day lands on a Saturday, as it did in 2026, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.

Steakhouse polish for Valentine’s night.

BOA is a polished, energetic steakhouse in downtown Austin. Its regular dinner menu features prime steaks, seafood, upscale appetizers, classic sides and indulgent desserts.

For our visit, the special Valentine’s prix-fixe menu made the decisions simple: an appetizer, a main course and a dessert to share. The steak delivered, and the room had the celebratory energy we wanted from the night.

Reserve both chapters.

If you plan to go out in Austin on Valentine’s Day—especially when it falls on a Friday or Saturday—make both reservations at least a few weeks in advance. Do not assume you will be able to walk into a small cocktail bar after dinner; places as intimate as Small Victory can fill quickly.

  • Plan ahead: Reserve both dinner and drinks several weeks in advance
  • Budget: A special-occasion splurge, especially on Valentine’s Day
  • Our next move: Return to BOA on a quieter Tuesday and enjoy it at its regular pace
